Wait, illegal immigrants WORK? they pay TAXES?!

GREAT column today by Sebastion Mallaby in the Post upending some cliche and unfounded criticisms about the effect of illegal immigrants on our economy and on just how HUGE the cost of illegal immigrants is to American households. Wait for it.........wait for it.........just about nothing. Well, $200 a year, but that doesn't factor in how much more households are making pretax, thanks to those members of the workforce.
And on building the Great Wall of Mexico? Mallaby points out this little zinger:
"And migrants will continue coming even if the entire southern border is walled off. Europe has a wall called the Mediterranean. It still has illegal immigrants."
Oh, snap!
Mallaby brings something new to the debate: with all this arguing over which candidate is going to "secure the borders" better, no one is daring to say that it might all just be a big, ineffective, unnecessary waste of money. Fiscal hawks, alight!

The Mediterranean does indeed block a certain amount of potential immigration but Europe does not have a wall were Europe is asking for one. The immigration problem in Europe stems from their landlock status with Asia. Turks represent the largest of the much complained about immigration problem in the EU and that makes Turkey's candidacy into the world body all the more controversial.
